Jews are often referred to as ‘the canary in the coal mine’, and it’s said that what starts with the Jews never ends with the Jews. Relating modern anti-semitism to other forms of prejudice including Islamophobia gives us an interesting perspective with which to view the current socio-political climate both here and overseas.
Speaker: Lynda Ben-Menashe BA Dip Ed MEd was born in Sydney and is fifth generation Australian. She works as Community Relations Manager of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, which is the elected representative roof body of the NSW Jewish community. The major focus of Lynda’s role is combatting racism and building social cohesion in NSW. She has traveled overseas extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States and lived in Israel for 7 years during the 1980s and 90s. She visits her family and friends in Israel and the West Bank annually. She has three children aged 15, 17 and 20 and loves reading, travel, dancing, and shoes.
